I took RAQ to a doof/festival, and here's my review
By Ruby Staley
RAQ at the sesh. Who knew swimwear would be perfect festival garb? Probably the team at RAQ, that’s who.
Although aesthetically beautiful, I wanted to functionally put my favourite RAQ bikini to test and literally push it to its limits under the hot sun and dust filled site at Pitch Music and Arts Festival.
Aside from having an absolute ball with my friends, running around under the warm sun in the shadows of the Grampians and boogying to some of our favourite DJs – I also found a way to sneakily wear my fave RAQ bikinis on one of the hotter days.
Being the first doof I’ve been to in literal years, I took a fuss free and comfy approach to festival fashion which meant looking to my RAQ set for both support and style.
For day one of the festival, I styled my absolute fave Multi-Way Top and Cheeky Tie Side Brief, both in Purple Haze, paired with a cute stretchy mini skirt and some white cowboy boots. And to say I was comfortable would be an understatement.
Not only did my boobs feel supported thanks to the sturdy underwire of the bra, but they looked cute and perky. Designed to be worn in and out of the water, the top offered the perfect amount of coverage so I never had to worry about a cheeky nip slip while on the D-floor.
Because of the swimwear fabric, it didn’t even matter how much I sweated or whether anyone (or myself) spilled a drink on me because it dried up almost instantly under the sun. Post-festi, this also meant it made for easy washing.
Although there’s a myriad of ways you can wear the multi-way top, I ended up just tying behind my neck in a classic halter style to maximise the support of the piece as I was going to wear it all day and night. A fun cross over or singlet style tie up would have been just as cool, but I stuck with what I knew best for the huge day of dancing.
Because my love for the set runs so deep, I just had to wear the matching bottoms as well. Tying them up loosely, I was able to sling them over my hip bones so that I achieved a cute Y2K high rise G-string look. The straps hung over the outside of my skirt almost like long fringing that added a bit of texture and shine to the look and tied in perfectly with my white cowboy boots (a festival staple).
Of course, I received compliments for the look, but above all, I felt hot myself. It didn’t really matter if anyone else liked it, I really love the purple sparkly material, felt super confident all day and didn’t need to worry about changing into anything more comfortable later on.
With Pitch sadly done and dusted, I’ve already begun planning how I can incorporate my other RAQ pieces into my future doof outfits.
For utility chic, the Lava Underwire Crop and Lava 90s Brief set in Lava would pair perfectly with a huge pair of cargo pants worn low on the hips and a chunky pair of boots. The Flower Bomb Underwire Crop would go perfectly with a cute skirt and some sandals. For something a little more covered, the Lounge Shirt and Pant set in cow paired with some Western boots and a cowboy hat would more than fit the bill.
I could go on and on because realistically, any of the RAQ pieces would be more than ideal for a festival setting. All it takes is a little bit of thinking outside of the box.
When swimwear is this cute and well made – why not wear it all the time?
